About Dr. Komlos

Dr. Fabio Komlos is an interventional radiologist with Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, part of Sutter Health, in Mountain View. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology in interventional and diagnostic radiology.

He earned his medical degree at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, completed a general surgery internship at Mayo Clinic, and trained in diagnostic radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, before completing fellowship training in vascular and interventional radiology.

His practice focuses on minimally invasive treatments: peripheral arterial disease, liver cancer care such as Y-90 radioembolization, tumor ablation and histotripsy, prostate and knee embolization, blood clots and varicose veins.

He speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese, and has made more than 170 patient education videos, watched more than 60,000 times, so patients and families can learn at home and come to clinic with better questions.

“When I look at a scan, I am asking three questions: what is causing the symptoms, what is the safest way to reach it, and what will this patient’s life look like afterward.”

How Dr. Komlos practices

1

He shows you what he sees

Most patients have never had their own scan explained. Dr. Komlos pulls up your images, points to the problem and draws out what a treatment would do.

2

Every option is on the table

Medicines, surgery, waiting and watching, or doing nothing. A procedure is only worth it if it is right for you.

3

The smallest effective treatment

Interventional radiology works through a puncture a few millimeters wide. Less trauma usually means less pain, fewer risks and a faster recovery.

4

He stays with you

Dr. Komlos performs your procedure himself, talks with you before and after, and keeps your other doctors informed.
